Detroit Public Library
The Detroit Public Library is home to the largest municipal library collection in Michigan and the 12th largest in the country. The system includes the historic Main Library in the Cultural Center, along with 21 neighborhood branches serving residents across the city.
Spanning three floors, the Main Library features extensive circulating and rare book collections, striking architecture, historic artifacts, and Detroit-focused special collections and archives. Visitors can access books, magazines, newspapers, records, CDs, DVDs, and digital materials, along with subscription databases and research resources. The Main Library is also home to the HYPE Teen Center, the Burton Historical Collection, the Children’s Library, and the DPL Galleria, which presents rotating community art exhibitions.
Visitors have access to a wide range of services, including technology support, career and employment assistance, literacy programs, community information and referral services, patent and trademark guidance, free meeting spaces, and much more. The library also offers daily programming for all ages, from children’s and teen clubs to hands-on workshops, author talks, live performances, and community events.
