Hellenic Museum of Michigan

The Hellenic Museum of Michigan presents and preserves Greek culture and the history of its expansive influence throughout the world. Housed in the historic Robert Pauli Scherer House, the museum serves as a cultural anchor for Detroit’s Greek community and a steward of the Greek diaspora’s contributions in Michigan and beyond.

Its growing collection features artifacts that document the evolution of Detroit’s Greektown, waves of Greek migration to the United States, the impact of military and political movements on Greek culture and identity, and traditional garments and art. The Hellenic Museum also hosts national and international exhibitions that explore the breadth of the Greek experience, often in collaboration with fellow institutions in the Detroit Cultural Center.

Visitors can explore the story of the Greek experience within the museum’s historic architecture. Throughout the year, the museum hosts live music, storytelling programs, community gatherings, artist receptions, and cultural celebrations in in both the museum and its adjacent Carriage House event space, creating opportunities for dialogue, connection, and shared heritage.
